About the Maker

Sherri Cowan Fairbairn was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. She attended Savannah College of Art and Design where she began to study Interior Design. She promptly refocused her studies on metal work, after falling in love with Metalsmithing. She continued her studies in art and received her Bachelor of Fine Art concentrating in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from East Carolina University and later, her Master of Fine Art from Indiana University.

Sherri quickly earned national recognition for her work, which included a prestigious Hollowware awards, numerous grants, and full scholarships. She has studied under the vastly talented John Satterfield, Randy Long, and Roxanne Reep. They gave her the greatest education in design and craftsmanship that drives her today. Sherri’s designs have been exhibited internationally-from New York City to San Diego to London.

Sherri currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama, with her twin boys. She has been involved in all areas of design from designing high-end eyewear in Los Angeles, fabricating her own one of a kind pieces, manufacturing her art objects to specializing in custom jewelry orders through her social media pages. Sherri Fairbairn Designs and B. Knight Studio are some of the names her designs have been found under for specific purposes. She can be found on Instagram as @design.by.sherri. This line is where Sherri is going back to her metalsmith roots with new designs and reworking some former favorite pieces.

Sherri can be found researching the latest design trends and latest health and healing information, reading about architecture, keeping up with family in Savannah and getting to the coast to be around water as much as possible. After growing up on the coast, she also loves spending time in and on the water and exploring the city of Savannah and the Low Country. The history of the coast and the architecture of Savannah never gets old - she always sees something new.
